Tas Cru

Raucous, rowdy, gentle, sweet, eccentric, quirky, and outright irreverent are all words that fittingly describe Tas Cru's songs and testify to his reputation as a one of the most unique of bluesmen plying his trade today. It’s not for nothing that Tas Cru has been dubbed, “the Master of TRIPLE entendre.”  His songs are blues poetry - crafted with rare verbal flair. Live, they are delivered with a power and passion that only the seasoned entertainer can render.  As Living Blues magazine observes,” The vivacity and sheer joy with which Cru plays is intoxicating and his ability to cast a memorable hook is magical!”

In early bands, Tas was introduced to the great Sun Records heroes and the country blues that later served as a counterpoint to the rock- blues he idolized as did so many young guitar players of his time.

Cru grew up in a very musical and generally unquirky family (except for him).  Unlike his talented brother and sisters, he did not pursue music in school instead exploring and developing his talent taking up with a rougher crowd of self-taught musician where he was introduced to the Sun Records heroes of that day.  Cru's first foray into the blues came after leaving the US Navy when he was asked to join a band formed by a former shipmate named Delray Streeter, a bluesman of unlimited bravado and attitude but limited singing and harmonica skillsBased out of upstate New York.

Cru performs in a variety of formats ranging from solo-acoustic to a 7 piece backing band. Blues Festival performances of note include Billtown Blues Festival (Williamsport, PA),, Chenango Blues Festival( Norwich , NY), Kalamazoo, Blues Festival (Kalamazoo, MII), Chattauqua Hills Blues Festival(Sedan, KS), Bluesberry Festival (Lafayette LA), Oxford Blues Festival (Oxford ,MS), Tall City Blues Fest  (Midlan,d TX), Mohawk Valley Blues Festival (Herkime,r NY), Crossborder Blues & BBQ Fest (Wilso,n NY), Buffalo/Niagara Blues Fest (Buffalo,NY),, and NYS Blues Fest (Syracuse, NY). Noteworthy recent major club appearances include BB King's and Rum Boogie Cafe (Memphis, TN), Ground Zero Blues Club (Clarksdale,, MS), Blue Rose Cafe (Tulsa, OK), Legacy Blues Club (Fayettevile, AR), Bourbon St. Blues & Boogie Bar (Nashvillee, TN), Uncle Bo's (Topeka,, KS), 411 Club (Kalamazoo, MI), Black Eyed Sally's (Hartford, CT) Time Out Pub (Rockland, ME),  Club Helsinki (Hudson, NY) Bearsville Theater (Woodstoc,k NY) and Caffe Lena (Saratoga Springs,, NY). As well, he has performed numerous Blues Education programs and workshops in schools and communities around the country.

Honors and recognition include Cru being awarded the 2014 Blues Foundation's Keeping the Blues Alive Award (KBA) for Blues Education, named to the New York State Blues Hall of Fame - 2013 as a Master Blues Artist, and in 2009 named by Blues Festival Guide Magazine as its 2009 Blues Artist on the Rise.

Recently labeled as “a real find for blues fans” by Vintage Guitar Magazine, the Blue Hearts are three-time winners of the CT Blues Society’s Blues Challenge, and have competed three times in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN.

Brandon Santini/ opening act John Fries

There are many different opinions as to what the future of the blues harmonica will be. Memphis vocalist and harmonica player Brandon Santini is undeniably a worthy player to keep an eye on as the latest surge of young blues artists leave their footprint in blues history. His name is worthy of conversations that include Jason Ricci, Billy Gibson, Dennis Gruenling, Rick Estrin and other frontline harmonica players by combining his love and respect for traditional blues with a present, colorful style of playing that is often compared to James Cotton or Paul Butterfield.

Raised in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, Brandon purchased his first harmonica in 1997 at the age of fifteen when his mother took him to the local music store upon his request. He founded the Blues Music Award nominated band Delta Highway in 2003 and relocated to Memphis where he absorbed the sounds and culture of the Delta and North Mississippi Hill Country, honing his craft night after night, sweating it out in local Beale Street clubs just like Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, and B.B. King did decades before him.

This Time Another Year is Brandon’s second album, recorded at the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis and features twelve dynamic performances from his former live band (playing over 220 shows together in 2012) while enlisting the help of good friends Victor Wainwright and Chris Stephenson. This sophomore effort was recorded live over a span of four days with minimal overdubs which created a very “live” sound. The album debuted at #12 on the Living Blues Radio chart spending three months in the Top 20 as well as picking up a prestigious nomination for “Contemporary Blues Album” in the 2014 Blues Music Awards .

Brandon was also nominated for a 2014 Blues Music Award in the category of, “Instrumentalist- Harmonica” and a Blues Blast Music Award in the category of, “Sean Costello Rising Star!”

Popa Chubby

Popa Chubby, born Ted Horowitz in 1960, is a native son of The Big Apple. His parents owned a candy store in the Bronx. The young Chubby would play the jukebox endlessly listening to the hits of the day. Motown, Stax Volt, Chess and Atlantic records spun endlessly through the young boy’s head. “The defining moment came when my Dad took me to see Chuck Berry when I was 6. There’s Chuck, onstage, larger than life. I see a bulge in his pocket and ask my dad what it is. ‘That’s Chuck’s money,’ my dad said. I was sold on the spot.”
At 14 he got his first guitar and never looked back. The 70′s were fertile ground with blues rock ruling the Arenas. Chubby, fueled by Led Zepplin, Johnny Winter, Jimi Hendrix, Foghat, Cream and the Rolling Stones would put in long hours with his record player learning the licks that would become his signature.
In the late 70’s Popa answered an ad for a guitarist in the Village Voice and became a mainstay of the early CBGB’s Punk scene. He played, recorded, and toured with Punk godfather Richard Hell becoming an in demand session player on the New York scene.
In 1993, after winning first place in the KLON National Blues Talent Search (runner up was Keb Mo),he signed a deal with the Sony’s O-KEH label and made the record “Booty And The Beast” with legendary Atlantic Records producer Tom Dowd at the helm. The record yielded a Billboard top 100 hit with “Sweet Goddess Of Love And Beer.” Chubby was on his way. After the birth of his twin daughters, Theodora and Tipitina, he began to tour the world. Popa Chubby became a mainstay on the European festival scene where he has headlined such notable festivals as The Nice Jazz Festival, Freewheels Festival, Bos Pop Festival, The Kolne Rhythm and Blues Festival, The Montreal Jazz Festival, The New York State Blues Festival, and many more.
Chubby continued to tour relentlessly and Garnered a W. C. Handy award for his 9/11 inspired “Somebody Let The Devil Out,” a tribute to the first responders in the great tragedy.

Popa Chubby is an artist who stands for musical and personal integrity. Audiences worldwide all say the same thing:

“This is the best show I have ever seen!”

Brandt Taylor Band

I'm a guitarist/singer/songwriter from Connecticut. I started playing at the age of 9, and professionally by the age of 16. I gig frequently around New England as a one man band, or with my full band and my downtime is spent writing and recording original music.

I like to think of my music as a modern approach to some classic styles. I'm influenced heavily by both classic and contemporary bluesmen, but I like employing elements of funk, soul, old school country and rock as well. My songs capture a range of emotions and are inspired by the events of my life and the foks who pass though it.

"A talented guitar player and band leader, mature as an artist, performer and instrumentalist."
—  Bill Reid, Webster Times
