Cobalt Rhythm Kings with special guest Tom Crivellone
The Cobalt Rhythm Kings were born 28 years ago when the original four were thrown together to jam on a stage in New Haven. They have remained one of CT’s leading blues bands for more than a quarter century — performing as far away as the King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, Arkansas and in CT’s best venues, including Black-Eyed Sally’s. Fronted for 25 years by native Chicagoans Wendell Jones on bass guitar & vocals and Mark Zaretsky on harmonica & vocals, The Kings have been an enduring presence on the CT scene. They opened for Etta James on the New Haven Green, played for thousands of people high atop the Temple Street Garage before New Haven imploded the New Haven Coliseum and opened shows for Johnny Winter, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Son Seals, Roomful of Blues and NRBQ. Personnel: Mark Zaretsky, Wendell Jones, Tom Smith on drums & Greg Benn on guitar. Special guest Tom Crivellone, also a native of Chicago, toured the world for more than a decade with the late Chicago blues icon Eddy “The Chief” Clearwater. He splits his time between Chicago and Connecticut and is co-frontman of The Chicago Dawgs with Cobalt harmonica player Mark Zaretsky. Crivellone also leads his own band, Shufflebone, and leads a monthly blues jam in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport.
